What we do

SoundStorm is the award winning Music Education Development Agency for the Bournemouth and Poole conurbation.

Facilitating meaningful relationships between the music and education sectors, we aim to develop a robust and inspiring music education offer for Bournemouth and Poole and to be national leaders within our sector through the breadth and quality of our work.

Over 180,000 participants and at least 500,000 audience members have been involved in our work over the years. Their involvement has been through workshops, concerts, special projects, community choirs, festivals, annual conferences, skills development sessions and much more…

Recognition

SoundStorm is the lead partner of the Bournemouth and Poole Music Education Hub, one of 123 hubs nationally. To read more about this visit the Music Education Hub section of our website.

For the third time we were awarded the Major Trophy at the National Music Education Awards (shared on this occasion with Portsmouth) and have in previous years been awarded the Diploma of Merit for Jazz Education. The Music Education awards are open to all 165 music services from across the British Isles.

Our History

SoundStorm was founded in 2002 by Dan Somogyi and Steve Harris, who were both deliberately recruited from non-formal music backgrounds. SoundStorm started as a development arm of Dorset Music Service, primarily serving Bournemouth and Poole.
