Compose a piece to be played at Arts by the Sea Festival

Kokoro, a professional chamber ensemble who specialize in new music will be at this year’s Arts by the Sea Festival.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra are delighted to be able to announce a Call for Scores for young people to write a piece to be played in the concert.

  • There are two age categories, 12 – 18 and 18 – 22.
  • Students can write a five minute piece using any of the instrumental combinations of Kokoro’s core group (download information).
  • Pieces should be related to the Festival’s overarching theme this year of The Sea and Voyages.
  • The deadline to submit scores to us is midday, Monday 5 September 2016.

We will look to workshop a shortlist of pieces on the day before the concert, with Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Mark Forkgen, the Kokoro musicians and Hywel Davies, Kokoro’s Composer-in-Residence offering practical advice and expertise to the composers. Then, at least one work from each category will be performed in the concert.

The project is part of Sound and Music’s Go Compose! Scheme. Detailed information can be downloaded here.
