Questions from member schools about Charanga and how it can used in classrooms are always welcomed – please get in touch with your designated SoundStorm coordinator.
We endeavour to host or run a number of both external and in house Charanga training throughout the year – your designated coordinator will be in touch with details of any opportunity as and when it arises.
We have recently been monitoring an enormous increase in teacher engagement in Charanga and a spike of student YUMU registrations from 400 to in excess of 8000 within a matter of weeks as schools are faced with setting home learning due to the nationwide lockdown (Spring 2020). As a result and in response to recent feedback of confidence levels in using Charanga amongst teachers in our member schools, a series of FREE remote CPD training session were arranged, including sessions on some of the more advanced features of Charanga with a focus on getting the most out of My Workspace and YUMU. We had a fantastic response from teachers, with well over 40 teachers getting involved in the various sessions! Click on the links below to access these training guides.
Updated for Spring 2020 in line with regular Charanga updates, our guidance for newcomers to Charanga can be seen by clicking on the link below:
For the more experienced Charanga user…
Over April and May 2020, SoundStorm’s Music and Cultural Education Coordinator, Jo, held a Free remote ‘Intermediate level’ CPD for Primary teachers on getting to grips with Charanga’s My Workspace capabilities. Primarily in response to recent feedback from members, the aim was to assist teachers in their understanding of using My Workspace effectively. Jo covered how to save resources in a convenient way, how to create and organise lessons, units and their student groups and provide ideas on how they might like to share, organise and set activities during the lockdown. This was communicated directly to all member Infant and Primary aged school music coordinators and was offered out to any teacher within their schools, as we appreciate that responsibility to deliver music is often shared.
Wanted to come along but missed it? Never fear – see below! My Workspace was the first session of a 2-part CPD – the second of which focussed on specific resources.
Part 2 of our Intermediate training covered some of her favourite Charanga resources, outside of the Scheme section (or our ‘Top Resources’). The aim was to assist teachers in their understanding of some of Charanga’s hidden gems and provide ideas on how they might be able to use them for their home learning activities. As with the My Workspace session above, this was communicated directly to all member Infant and Primary aged school music coordinators and was offered out to any teacher within their schools.
