Accessible Instruments Library
Welcome to SoundStorm’s Accessible Instrument Library!
In accordance with our Inclusion Strategy and with the help of a recent Capital Grant received from the Department for Education, we have built this library to help give young people in the BCP area access to instruments that meet their unique needs, abilities and interests.
Details of the various instruments available and the hire fee can be found below. Thanks to Lancashire Music Hub, we are pleased to include links to their website to enable you to access further teaching resources and videos of the instruments being used for many of the available instruments. Upon accessing the links to Lancashire Music Hub, please remember to go back to the SoundStorm page should you wish to enquire regarding the hire of any instrument.
We are pleased to offer these instruments for hire to SoundStorm member specialist and mainstream settings. If you would like to enquire about any of the instruments referred to below, please get in touch with your allocated SoundStorm Coordinator below:
Lucy Baish – lucy.baish@bcpcouncil.gov.uk
Sarah Derwish – sarah.derwish@bcpcouncil.gov.uk
Jo Farley – jo.farley@bcpcouncil.gov.uk
Many of the instruments require an iPad. If your school does not have iPads, please advise your SoundStorm Coordinator as we may be able to hire an iPad subject to availability.
Please keep an eye out for additions to the library as it continues to grow. Our current library consists of:
ACCESSIBLE RECORDER – awaiting delivery
Designed specifically for pupils and players with finger disabilities who would otherwise be excluded from the joy of playing the recorder in school or elsewhere.
In addition to the headpiece, there are six separate sections for holes that fit smoothly into one another. By rotating the holes and plugging certain holes, the recorder can accommodate fingers that are missing or that have limited movement.
Price on request (this could form part of a class group of instruments or be an individual loan)

CLARITE – awaiting delivery
A fantastic invention that holds the clarinet in the correct playing position but takes all the weight of the thumb. The hook ring fits between the bell and bottom joint and the hanger goes between your body and the hook fitting.
Especially helpful for those with double joints, strain injuries and wrist of finger aches and pains.
Price on request (this could form part of a class group of instruments or be an individual loan)
TRUMPET FLOOR STAND – awaiting delivery
This trumpet stand is designed to enable people with a range of upper limb disabilities to play the trumpet or cornet without having to maintain stability and manage the weight of the instrument. This has enabled musicians with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Limb/Hand/Digit absences and Arthrogryposis.
