The Soundbeam is an instrument consisting of movement sensor ‘beams’, switches and a touchscreen computer containing a collection of ‘soundsets’ and videos, all of which allow several pupils to improvise together in fun, intuitive ways.

It can be used to develop improvisation skills; create immersive and multi-sensory environments; support storytelling and thematic work; and for cross-arts activities with movement and dance.

The “ODD Ball” is an accessible musical instrument that uses a Bluetooth-enabled, motion-sensitive silicone ball to create sounds through a connected app. It is accessible because it responds to a variety of physical actions like bouncing, tapping, or throwing, and is designed for users of all abilities and music skill levels. The free app allows users to choose from hundreds of sounds, record their creations, and even share them with others.

The Arcana Strum is a musical instrument designed to be extremely simple to learn and easy to play. It provides a full musical experience, with chords, tunes, riffs and scales. Designed specifically for the assistive technology market, the Arcana Strum is a compact device that can help anyone play guitar regardless of their physical ability.

The Boss 505 Looper is a professional-level loopstation, allowing users to layer up voices or instruments, add effects, and create complete compositions. It is great fun, and can be used effectively across a range of abilities, from pupils who are just beginning to vocalise, to aspiring songwriters and performers.

The Skoog is a customizable electronic musical instrument that has been designed to be inclusive and accessible – especially to those unable to play conventional musical instruments. Its primary market is special needs education and music therapy.

The Skoog itself is a soft cube that plugs, via USB, into a computer running its accompanying software, which uses physical modeling technology to allow direct correlations between the expressive gestures the player makes on the Skoog and the sound that comes out of the software. The current version of the software features twenty one such instruments. The Skoog can also be used as a MIDI controller, as well as a sampler.

The Cosmos switches are sets of brightly-lit, durable switches that can trigger individual notes and loops. The accompanying iPad app contains a variety of musical games that are designed to engage pupils with a wide range of interests and needs. They are especially effective for group work in settings for pupils with more complex needs, and as a way to visually represent different sounds in space.
