From Classroom to Concert Hall

The journey to the Royal Albert Hall; A SoundStorm Film

On November 5th, over 250 students from Bournemouth and Poole travelled to London to perform the Massed ensemble centre-piece at the Music for Youth Proms, joining 300+ students from the Isle of Wight and Southampton Music Hubs and members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Performing Symphony 125, James Redwood’s magnificent celebration of the BSO’s 125th birthday, they received a standing ovation in what was a truly joyous and ambitious accomplishment. This was a fitting culmination of our Take Off programme, the ensemble development offer we launched back in 2015, led by the BSO which reached hundreds of students from across the conurbation.

We’re in the editing room creating our film of the journey that led us there but until then here’s our short teaser video.

Thanks again to the BSO’s Learning & Participation team and to everyone who took part from Winton & Glenmoor Academies, Longfleet Primary, Teach Trust, Jewell Academy, Poole and Parkstone Grammar schools, Bishop of Winchester Academy, Bournemouth Youth Hand bell Team and Victoria Education Centre.
