For Teachers 2022-23

SoundStorm and the BCP Hub are committed to supporting continuous professional development for teachers, their colleagues, and our Hub partners;  through funded training, mentoring and a range of school-based workshops we champion a culture of progressive learning through team teaching, coaching, and embedded learning via many of our in-school offers.

Over recent years, we have invested significantly in professional development and training opportunities across our primary and infant network and used various strategies to engage schools. This year we would like to develop this further, with particular reference to recent briefings by OFSTED.

New OFSTED HMI for Music, Christopher Stevens, recently re-emphasised that SLTs are expected to be providing opportunities for developing the skills and confidence of their teachers in charge of delivering music. We, as the lead partner of the BCP Music Education Hub, are committed to finding a programme of CPD which supports schools achieve this. Whilst we do not have the resources to visit every school to give bespoke twilight training, we will be offering a series of CPD events aimed at reaching as many teachers of KS1 & 2 music as possible. This is open to ALL Hub member schools.

A step towards developing confident music teachers across BCP Music Education Hub.

We are excited to announce a vibrant programme of CPD available to your staff developing across the next year. The ambition is that your staff team, particularly those helping deliver the music curriculum, have access to relevant and timely training.

Each term, there will be one practical Charanga Workshop (twilights) and one SoundStorm Primary Music Skills Day, many featuring special guests from local, national or regional expert organisations, available for member school’s staff to attend. These training sessions will incorporate confidence building as well as development of subject knowledge for both non-specialist teachers, as well as experienced music specialists. We have a programme full of activities covering an extensive range of skills teachers need to deliver the KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum, with a focus on enriching their experience of music education.

Our special guest workshop leaders will include local music champions such as Sam Mason (CODA, BSO), Lee Marchant, Jason Thornton (Bath Phil), Doug Gould and Guillermo Rozenthuler!
