On 26 September 2018 (8pm), Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, is hosting w-RAP 2, a unique music-theatre work exploring the light and dark faces of plastics in our times. The project is the culmination of a partnership between SoundStorm, Wave, Arts University Bournemouth, Museum of Design in Plastics (MODIP), composer Karen Wimhurst and the Cultural Hub.
This multi-faceted project has been exploring the many positive and negative aspects of plastic over a number of months and, in summer 2018, students attended workshops building musical instruments from plastic, making music using unusual sources, composing new pieces and much more besides, funded by Arts Council England, Cultural Hub and SoundStorm.
A first performance, involving the students, was rapturously received at its premiere at AUB in July 2018.
w-RAP2 sees the professional performance, using some of the samples produced by the young people, a range of musicians and input from Arts University Bournemouth. It should be a unique, exciting, entertaining and educational musical evening.
